Barbara Vincent Sheep and Gate, 80s, Linocut

Born in London, Vincent was the daughter of Thomas Dunhill, the composer. She studied at Guilford School of Art in 1939 before joining the Woman’s Land Army. Following the end of the War she returned to London, studying at Camberwell School of Art. She married Michael Vincent in 1947, and they moved to Devon.

Her first solo show was at the Burton Art Gallery in Bideford in 1964. She focused on Linocuts making over 100 between 1972 and 2000 in a style influenced by Edward Bawden.
